Greg Meyer: Roadside Watercolors
Greg Meyer spends his days designing building
web-based training content for call center representatives at a large
wireless telecommunications company.
Often, he spends his nights painting watercolors of signs you
might see if you're driving along the roads of America.
A history buff and artist by education, Greg likes signs that
highlight the roadside architecture built in the years after World
War II. This regional culture is quickly disappearing, but you can
still find it on the "Blue Highways" and old motels in sleepy,
forgotten towns.
North Star Motel, Vermont. 2003, Watercolor.
Greg uses watercolor and other materials to depict the gas
stations, motel signs, and other roadside scenes in his work. He
appreciates the strong line possible with pen and watercolor
combinations, and also uses watercolor pencils to blend contour and
color in his paintings.
Meyer's training in art includes a B.A. in Studio Arts from
Williams College in Massachusetts. He is a winner of the Berkshire
Art Association fellowship award, and has exhibited his work in group
and individual shows in Massachusetts. He currently lives in Redmond,
WA, where he enjoys life among the trees. See more of Greg's work at
